Terrakota

If one says Lisbon, one thinks fado. Well, think again because here comes Terrakota, the leaders of the worldfusion scène that is developing in Lisbon. Terrakota and tens of young bands form the up-and-coming ‘musica mestiça’ scène are coming along with the rising cultural diversity influenced by immigrant populations, and musicians, from the ancient Portuguese colonies Angola, Cape Verde, Brazil, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique. Lisbon is changing. The ‘cidade do fado’ is being more and more open and multicultural, and no one better represents that cultural diversity than Terrakota.

Barrio Candela

BarrioCandela es un proyecto musical enérgico, formado en Barcelona a comienzos del 2007. La originalidad de su sonido tiene raíz en las aportaciones musicales que nutren esta banda: de Guatemala, guitarra y voz indómita del “Dr. Sativo”; de los andes chilenos “El A-Vuelo” (Tomás Feres) liderando en el cajón y la batería; de la legión guaraní, el paraguayo “Osakar” (Oscar Frutos) prendiendo mecha en el contrabajo; de México, sinaloense-tapatío “El Comandante” (Antonio Velázquez) repicando en la percusión y sus gaitas Colombianas; y del valle azteca, “El Mito” (Gonzalo Zetina) al mando del saxo y sonidos ad líbitum. El sonido de sus canciones es una ráfaga de energía, entusiasmo y ritmo que detonan el baile; el contenido de sus letras manifiesta una constante reflexión sobre lo cotidiano y, a su vez, la necesidad de reconexión con la esencia y la conciencia.

Forro in the dark

For those who don’t already know, forró is the hip-swiveling, dancefloor-filling, rural party music of Brazil’s northeastern states. And Forró in the Dark is the collective of New York-based Brazilian ex-pats – Mauro Refosco (zabumba drum and vocals), Guilherme Monteiro (guitar and vocals) and Jorge Continentino (pifano flute, sax and vocals) who are updating this traditional sound for the 21st century.
